Although cannabis has no established LD-50 (lethal dose), potency testing is necessary to determine the precise amount of cannabinoids, terpenes and other ingredients in any sample of cannabis, be it flowers, edibles, or concentrates. Without potency testing dosing is likely to be inconsistent. A further concern is toxic levels of heavy metals, pesticides, fungicides and other contaminants.
To say there are clear-cut guidelines for dosing medical cannabis oil would be erroneous due to the fact that every individual has their own tolerance. Historically, self administering has not been dangerous due to cannabis’s lack of physical toxicity. People need to exercise due care by adopting the “start low, go slow” approach, which avoids the unwanted psychotropic effects of exessive dosing.
Please note there is no exact evidence on the dosing requirements across all conditions. Every patient is at a different place in terms of age, health and stage of condition, and it would be untrue to say that what works for one person will work for another. Finances are a determining factor in treatment plans as is tolerance of the effects, particularly in the case of THC.
We do not advocate cannabis oil as a cure for cancer. According to anecdotal reports some patients have experienced reduction and, in less cases, patients even claim remission of cancer and many other diseases.
- The average course of a treatment is 90-180 days (3-6 months).
- The generally agreed upon dose of cannabis oil is 1 drop of oil or paste the size of a grain of rice under the tongue 2 times a day, for the first 3 days – depending on tolerance and seriousness of disease.
- After 3 days, the dose can be added to 1 drop per dose every 3-5 days (the latter if the patient is very sensitive to cannabis and more or less can be had day or night to suit the patient).
- The goal for most patients is to find where the effects are tolerable and the conditions symptoms are alleviated to best degree. For many people full dosing is uncomfortable and uneccessary.
- For those with very serious unresponsive conditions we suggest flood dosing as much as possible.
- Continue until 1 ml per day is reached (25 drops per ml or gram drops make 1 ml of the cannabis oil).
- Dose to where effects are tolerable and condition symtoms are alleviated and continue at that rate until tests are conducted.
- Your doctor should be informed to ensure their insight into interactons with other drugs they may prescribe.
- Dosing the cannabis oil slowly, or titrating doses, allows the body to build up a tolerance and for the patient to determine and control their best dosage by self observation.
- Please note: for very sensitive people and pediatric care a once daily dose in the evening for one week may be implemented to test tolerance and best observe potential side effects.
- If a patient is heavily medicated this is also a good way to check for any potential unknown drug interactions.
Which Cannabinoids are Most Effective for Alleviation or Potential Treatment of Cancer?
A commonly recommended method is to start out with a high concentration of non-psychoactive cannabidiol (CBD) for the first week or two to build up tolerance and a relationship to cannabis oils. If you are not able to produce your own phytocannabinoids, then find a clinics supplying high % CBD oil. Make certain to ask for an official lab potency test for the oil to verify the exact concentration of CBD oil. The higher the CBD concentration and the lower the THC concentration, the less psycho-active the effect. After the first week or two, start taking highly concentrated THC oil alongside the CBD oil. Whilst there are reports of people using CBD oil alone to treat serious conditions, it seems evident that a combination of both is best for some patient needs. The choice is ultimately in the hands of the patient, the carer and dcotor, where possible.
What to Remember While Taking Cannabis Oil
While taking cannabis oil it is of vital importance that diet and lifestyle are addressed. An organic, sugar free, raw food diet is recommended. Avoid chemicals of any kind in your food supplies and in your daily environment. Make sure to consume vital vitamins and minerals. After taking cannabis oil a short period of time you will feel the effects of these natural cannabinoid molecules in your body. If you do not like these effects, then this form of treatment may not be the best avenue for you. Make sure to have a complete health check up every three months, or as directed by your doctor, to see whether you still need to take large doses of cannabis oils, and importantly other chemical substances prescribed to you.
Side Effects
Bear in mind that during the early stages of cannabis oil treatment, dizziness and fatigue can occur. For most patients this usually resolves after a few days to weeks of continued treatment and management of smaller doses. Some patients can also experience appetite changes, euphoric moods, balance disorder, somnolence, vertigo, blurred vision, nausea, attention problem and changes in pulse rate and blood pressure. These side effects can be managed by slow titration and will resolve when the dose is reduced. Dose can also be stabilised until a comfortable level is reached, then slowly titrate upward again after a few days.
Cannabis Oil Dosing
Please note that with the slow uptake titration method the patient can plateau at any time on the schedule when they experience the desired or undesired results. The less taken at the best benefit, the better in terms of cost and mitigating psycho activity.
Cannabis oils are best used an hour or more away from food for bio availability.
The time of day does not have to be strictly adhered to. Some patients take their day dose/s between waking and midday, and night dose/s from late afternoon until just before bed. Others take their dose/s in the afternoon and before bed if an active lifestyle or career needs to be considered.
Some patients take a single dose before bed if the effects are intolerable and they would otherwise be unable to proceed. Suppository dosing is recommended in this instance because it is substantially less psychotropic.
These dosage guidelines are suggestions only. They relate to high purity extracts, if you are taking extracts in carrier oils you will need to take additional doses according to the dilution ratio. Remember for all the below suggestions test dosing should be conducted. Using cbd only for a period of 1 to 2 weeks will help build tolerance to cannabinoids. When introducing THC if there is no prior experience with cannabis use a single dose should be used for several days in the evening to check tolerance. Due care should be taken at all times when driving or operating any machinery. It is the responsibility of the individual to determine whether cannabis is required for their condition. Roadside and workplace testing are part of these due considerations.Pleae note there are legal access clinics available by searching the web.

Diabetes, Hypertension, Pain, Epilepsy, Depression and Other Serious Diseases of Body and/or Mind
Many patients for reasons of trepidation, or work and life schedules, potentially affected by psycho activity with oral THC use, try low THC CBD oil first to see if their condition can be managed with CBD alone.
If relief is not found with low THC CBD oils then the addition of THC may be necessary. Both can use the same uptake schedule as shown above and below.

.cannabis oils can be titrated up and downward to avoid too much tolerance building, in cases where the so called side effects feel complimentary to the individuals wellbeing.
